Euro Spec

Your car says a lot about you, so I thought I should design the story behind Sly's car -

When he first hit NY he was working as a performance specialist at Santino's garage making SERIOUS BANK. In a shallow attempt to fill the void left behind by his family, Sly imported a BMW M3 direct from the factory in Bavaria. Its a showboat of a car, however over the years as Sly entered a downward spiral of boozing and using it began to take its toll on everything, including his economic situation. So the car goes from being this object of status and pride to being an absolute disgrace to behold because he's run out of money to  maintain it. So the door panels are all different colors from drunken fender benders that forced him to replace various parts with panels from different cars at the wrecking yard. There's also rust on the fenders, and the bumper is held on to the body by zip ties.

Below is a picture of what it looked like when it rolled off the factory floor in 1990. I need to follow up with the sad neglected 2015 version but shit has been cray lately. Got booked on an animated film (yay!) which is adorable, and working with my friend Rafaello who is the director. And just finished up a walking dead commercial which I probably cant post yet because it hasn't aired. All in all work has been good to me lately.

In other news, I finally pulled the trigger on the Cintiq Companion. Best money I ever spent. Seriously Wacom, well done.

Commercial Storyboards

For a project I worked on earlier this month...I thought it came out decent. Been slammed with work lately, hallelujah! But tricky also because Invincible Summer is building momentum as well.

More Invincible Pre-Pro!

Playing catch up with all the stuff I drew in Alaska when I didn't have access to photoshop or a scanner. Folks I'm coming very close to affording a Cintiq companion. Once I do my workflow will be totally optimized and I'll be able to churn this stuff out so much faster. I can't f*cking wait. Seriously.

Eddie and Santino

Starting to work on secondary characters. Eddie is Anca's brother. They share the same dad but different moms. I picture him as either a hipster or ghetto wannabe poser with a smug ass attitude. His function in the story is essentially to work as a sounding board for the two main characters, although he does have his own back story. Ideally I would like to set this character up as super arrogant, macho, and homophobic and then catch the audience by surprise when we reveal that he is actually gay.

Voices of the Wilderness

Hey friends,
This year I was chosen to participate in a visiting artist program called Voices of the Wilderness in Petersburg, a tiny island in Southeast Alaska. I spent the past 2 weeks traveling through the Alaskan wilderness with 3 US Forest Service Rangers. We took a float plane packed with food, gear and foldable kayaks into the Tebenkof Bay wilderness area in Southeast Alaska and paddled around for 9 days mostly camping on Kuiu Island. We met many animals, including whales, bears, sea lions, seals, sea otters, minks, all kinds of birds, and saw signs of wolves. Below are a few sketches I made while we were out there. I wish I had more time to draw but the trip itself was pretty physically demanding, at least for me. I tried to do my best. Lastly, in exchange for the free tour of the wilderness they have commissioned a comic from me to educate kids about Leave No Trace camping, where you take very specific steps not to harm the environment while you are visiting the wilderness.
